Washington, DC✓ ANSWERED

What should I check before taking Metro with a stroller or limited mobility?

The trip planner gives us a route, but elevator outages can change everything. What should we check before traveling into DC?

Use WMATA’s trip-planning and alert tools, then check elevator and escalator status shortly before departure. Build in a few extra minutes for elevator routes inside large stations.

Know one nearby alternate station or bus connection before you go. When an elevator is unavailable, having a backup already in mind is much easier than rebuilding the trip on the platform.

Travel outside the sharpest rush-hour window when possible, keep the stroller clear of train doors and let riders exit before boarding. Confirm the accessible entrance at your destination, too—the station is only half the adventure.
